Choirs combine to perform a Bach masterpiece
GREAT Missenden Choral Society is performing JS Bach's wonderful St Matthew Passion at St Mary's Church, Amersham, tomorrow (Saturday).
Bach's masterpiece is a musical setting of the Passion story. It falls naturally into a succession of short scenes, appropriately separated by arias, ariosos, duets and accompanied recitatives, plus chorales which complete and comment on the action.
This performance (in English) is a collaboration with Buckingham Choral Society. The two choirs will be accompanied by St John's Chamber Orchestra. The conductor is John Cotterill.
Soloists include Thomas Hobbs in the role of Evangelist and Frederick Long as Christ, with Ruth Jenkins (soprano), Rosie Aldridge (mezzo), Tim Lawrence (tenor) and Thomas Faulkner (bass-baritone).
