HOLMER Green nearly pulled of a cup shock but Burnham proved too strong in their cup quarter-final clash.

The Blues were made to come from a goal down to book a semi-final game with Amersham Town after a plucky performance by the Greens at The Gore on Monday night.

The Spartan South Midlands Premier strugglers stunned their Evo-Stik Division One Central hosts on 23 minutes by taking the lead when a poor goalkeeper's throw fell to the feet of Dean Allen who accepted the gift to score.

A defensive blunder of their own saw Burnham draw level just before the break when goalkeeper Charlie Fanner rose to catch a cross but he dropped the ball into the path of Ryan Bird and the Blues striker made no mistake from close range.

Burnham scored the deciding goal five minutes after the break when Jeff Brown converted a deep cross at the far post.

Holmer had half-chances to take the tie into extra-time with Gary Lines and Allen shooting wide.

But Chris Allen's side can now fully focus on their bid to beat the drop.
