Magpies go down at Colney

AMERSHAM Town slumped to back-to-back defeats with a midweek loss at London Colney.

AMERSHAM Town slumped to back-to-back defeats with a midweek loss at London Colney.

It was always a tough ask for Chris Miller's struggling Magpies against a Colney side with the best defensive record in Spartan South Mids Division One.

But they put on a spirited display in the first-half and could have gone ahead had Ben Gray and Ryan Clark had their shooting boots on.

The home side made the breakthrough just after the hour mark when David Parkinson saw a deflected shot nestle into the bottom corner.

Colney sealed a 2-0 win two minutes later when Richard Perks rose to head in a corner.

Amersham remain one point outside the relegation places and with games in hand on the sides below them in the table.

The Magpies host Bedford this weekend hoping to take advantage of any rustiness with Bedford only having played once since January 22.
