Magpies 3-1 Hales Ley Utd

AMERSHAM Town had to come from behind to progress to the third round of the Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup.

AMERSHAM Town had to come from behind to progress to the third round of the Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup.

Magpies boss Chris Miller fielded a number of new players for the weekend cup tie after their merger with Bucks Student Union FC.

But it was North Bucks & District Premier League side United who took an early lead when Daniel Jones lashed in from close range after just eight minutes.

Amersham were taking a while to get going but levelled just before the half hour when Jack Edmeads waltzed through the Hales defence to score.

Miller's Magpies took the lead on 61 minutes when Martin Loakes rose to meet a Josh Woods cross with his effort taking a deflection and sneaking into the top corner.

Progress to the next round was secured eight minutes later when Rob Baker slotted in from a corner.

Miller will hope the win will boost confidence ahead of a return to Spartan South Mids Division One action and a trip to St Albans City Reserves on Saturday.
