JAMES Mason was one of the big winners at last week’s junior competition at Gerrards Cross Lawn Tennis Club, coming out on top in the Orange U9 County Tour event.

The youngster, making the most of playing on his home patch, beat Jack Shawyer (Chesham Bois) and Rebecca Greenough (Oxford) before overcoming Joshua Hoey from Halton 7-6 4-7 7-3 in the final.

In the other finals, three other Gerrards Cross LTC players were winners.

Jacob Mellows beat clubmate Trish Kumar 10-6 to win the Red event, Edward Crowston overcame Ethan Hague (Chesham) 4-1 4-1 to win the Green event and Olivia Mason was victorious against Ellen Greenough (Worcs) to land the U14 girls prize.

In the Green girls event, Emma Savage (Chesham 1879) beat Alexa Wilson (Milton Keynes) 4-0 4-1. In the U12 event, Daniel Kingsley (Middlesex) beat Alex Greenough (Worcs) 3-5 4-1 12-10; and in the U14 competition, Toby Sowood (Wooburn Green) beat David Green (GXLTC) 0-4 4-0 10-6.

On Sunday, there is a festival of tennis at the Bull Lane club, featuring an inter-school tournament from 11am, followed by open doubles tournament for all ages at 1.30pm.
