HOLTSPUR FC’s U13 Hurricanes ended their season on a high by winning the Wycombe Junior League Cup Final at Thame FC.

The Beaconsfield team beat Penn and Tylers Green 3-1, this year’s Division One champions, who were unbeaten all year.

Holtspur made the breakthrough when Dylan Moss outpaced his marker to cut in from the left wing and fire past the Penn keeper. They doubled their lead within five minutes when Adam Smith tucked home a rebound after his own hard, low cross had run back into his path.

Penn pulled back a goal with a near-post header which evaded the outstretched hand of Myles Bridgman, and they were the stronger team in the second half, dominating possession.

But they could not find a way through and only mustered three shots on target, all very comfortably dealt with by Josh King, now in the Holtspur goal.

In the first minute of injury time, Holtspur finally finished off Penn with a delightful counter-attack. Captain Logan Kwiecien calmly brought the ball out of defence and fed Callum Keane. He then played in Keiran McLean, who worked the ball into the path of a sprinting Moss, and the striker slid the ball wide of the Penn keeper.

Manager David Brosse, who is retiring at the end of the season after 13 years at Holtspur, said: “I am so proud of all the players, not just those that took the field today, but all the squad who have played their part in our successful cup run.

“It’s a great way to sign off from the most successful team in Holtspur history, after winning the treble in our first year at U11, the league again last year, and now the League Cup this year.”
