ELEANOR Dolan collected two gold medals at the ASA South East Region Winter Championships – an event where competition was fierce, with 50 clubs involved from as far afield as the Isle of Wight.

Dolan was one of 15 Amersham Swimming Club members taking part in the long course event at Aldershot, where qualifying times were stiff, and only open and junior categories (U16) on offer.

She took her first gold in the 100m backstroke in a time of 1:05.14 and her strongest challenger was team-mate Kat Shaw, who took silver in 1:06.72.

That was a reversal of their position in the heats, when Shaw finished second and Dolan third.

The pair also finished fifth and sixth in the 50km backstroke, with Shaw edging that one.

Dolan’s second gold came in the 200m backstroke (2:18.91), with Shaw scooping her second medal of the championships in the 100m freestyle, when she took bronze with a time of 59.27.

A fifth medal came the club’s way with Sophie Elphick’s bronze in the 800m freestyle in 9:16.04.
