CHESHAM United have begun their summer business with the signing of two experienced defenders.

Former Marlow captain Chris Elsegood, 27, and former Swansea City defender Neil Sharp, 31, have agreed terms at The Meadow as the Generals prepare for life back in the Southern Premier Division.

Sharp also played 117 times for Havant & Waterloovile and was part of the squad that made it to the fourth round of the FA Cup before losing to Liverpool at Anfield in 2008.

United boss Andy Leese said: "I am delighted that Chris has chosen to join us for the challenge of the Premier Division this year. He has wide experience of our new level.

"Neil wil be a major influence at Chesham United next year. Despite interest from clubs at a higher level, he wants to play nearer to home and will be a great addition to our squad."

The signings are a welcome boost for Leese who saw goalkeeper Richard Hayward and defender Nick Leach choose to leave the club.

But influential skipper Danny Talbot and last season's top goalscorer Steve Wales have both penned new deals at the club.

United will find out who they will take on in their first game back in the Premier Division on July 17.
