Amersham's survival bid to go down to final weekend

AMERSHAM Town’s survival in this division is now probably out of their hands after this derby defeat.

AMERSHAM Town’s survival in this division is now probably out of their hands after this derby defeat.

The Magpies remain a point outside the bottom two but have a trip to second-placed Ampthill in their last game of the season.

They played their fellow strugglers on Saturday knowing a win would secure their Division One status but they put in a poor performance and had goalkeeper Perry Cheadle to thank for keeping the scoreline down.

They conceded after 11 minutes when Jonny Cater was left unmarked to tap in from close range before Cheadle denied Josh Fagan and Cater with fine saves to keep his side in the game at the break.

Buckingham doubled their lead on 64 minutes when Cater pounced on a defensive mistake and the striker completed his hat-trick and made the points safe on 81 minutes to leave Amersham sweating going into the final weekend.
