GARY Waddock saluted his Wycombe side after they stormed into the League Two top three with their weekend win at Cheltenham.

Wanderers cemented their promotion credentials by coming from behind to take all the points in Gloucestershire on Saturday.

Superb goals from Stuart Beavon and Gareth Ainsworth sealed the win for Waddock's side.

The Blues boss said: "It is a fantastic result. We went a goal down but kept going and played some good football at times. We always looked a threat going forward.

"It was a fantastic strike by Bevs on stroke of half-time and Gaz's finish from Westy's (Chris Westwood's) cross was another great finish.

"It is a good day for us. This is a very difficult place to come to and they have a terrific result against Bradford in midweek but we have been able to put on a performance and put out the three points."

Wycombe had to see out a barrage of attacks by the Robins in the first-half as the home side wasted six great chances and saw Blues stopper Nikki Bull continue his excellent form in goal.

But Beavon's curling equaliser on the stroke of half-time turned the tide and Wycombe went on to record their fifth league win on the road.

Waddock said: "Cheltenham were always going to come at us full of confidence but around the half-hour mark we were able to get into the game and passed the ball around.

"In the second-half I thought we played some decent football. The most important this is that we had to compete.

"From the moment we got the equaliser, I felt we stepped up a gear. We moved the ball very well and broke very well and kept the ball in good areas."

Waddock will assess the fitness of his players ahead of the Bank Holiday Monday visit of Gillingham.
