GARY Waddock admits he is desperate to keep on-loan Charlton pair Paul Hayes and Gary Doherty.
The Blues boss spoke to Addicks chief Chris Powell yesterday with a 28-day recall clause in their three-month loan deal able to be activated today.
Fans fear their impressive form for Wanderers – especially forward Hayes with six goals in six games – will see them drafted back in for Charlton's promotion push.
But Powell eased those concerns slightly this week by insisting he would not bring Hayes back without good reason and with loan signing Danny N'Guessan scoring on his Addicks debut.
“It would be wrong of me to call him back if he's not going to be in the 16,” he said. “It has to be that he will be in the starting XI or 16 as it wouldn't benefit him or Wycombe.”
That will be music to Waddock's ears as he looks to continue Wycombe's escape from relegation.
“Our fans probably will be cheering on Charlton now,” he joked. “At the end of the day they are contracted to Charlton and can be called back anytime they are needed.
“I spoke to Chris yesterday and he has been excellent in keeping in touch with their progress and keeping me informed with the situation.
“Obviously we want to keep them both because they have been fantastic for us. Charlton are in a healthy position at the top of the table and Chris has told me they will only be recalled if they are going to get back into the matchday 16.”
