Saints 1-2 Dunstable Town

CHALFONT ST PETER suffered only their second defeat of the season against Dunstable Town at Mill Meadow on Tuesday night.

A 2-1 defeat saw them crash out in the second round of the Spartan South Mids Premie Division Cup.

It had all started so brightly for the Saints with an early header from Charlie Strutton putting them on course for the third round, Chalfont’s number nine losing his man at the near post to arrow home a delightful Adam Louth free kick.

Despite mounting pressure from Dunstable, stand in goal keeper Michael Power-Simpson had a relatively quiet first half, if only because Niall William’s had lost his shooting boots.

Town’s number 10 should have levelled proceedings on 43 minutes with a half volley from five yards. Instead his tame effort trickled into the palms of a grateful Simpson.

Unfortunately for the Saints Williams made amends in the second half with the Blues next opportunity, slotting home a rebound from a Luke Lincoln shot that Power-Simpson did well to get down to.

Substitute Jerome Okimo then carved out two chances to grab the equaliser, cutting inside with his left foot before blasting over Paul Taylor’s bar on both occasions.

With only 13 minutes to go and the prospect of extra time looming large Dunstable conjured one last meaningful attack that forced Power-Simpson into another stunning save.

If his defence had been as sharp they would probably have been able to prevent Luke Lincoln tapping home on the goal line for what proved to be the winner.
