BYRON Walton is hoping his Beaconsfield SYCOB side can take a giant step towards securing a play-off spot this weekend.

One win in four games has seen the Rams drop to fourth in the Evo-Stik Division One Central and hand a lifeline to the sides below them chasing down their top five spot.

Rugby Town are one of those sides – sitting seventh and six points below SYCOB – and they make the trip down from Warwickshire to Holloways Park this weekend knowing they can heap more pressure on their promotion rivals.

But Walton, who admits he has seen nervousness creep into his side in recent weeks, believes a win for his team would end Rugby’s play-off aspirations and help relax his young players.

He said: “We have a really important game on Saturday and there is no getting away from that,” he said. “If we beat them then I don't think they will be able to catch us and claw back a nine point gap.

“I would not be too unhappy to pick up a point because they are a very good side who play excellent football. The key is not to get beaten.”

Chalfont St Peter consolidated their spot in 10th place with a 0-0 draw at Ashford Town (Middx) on Tuesday night.

They travel to Daventry Town on Saturday.
