GARY Waddock has leapt to the defence of right-back Marvin McCoy after his errors in the home draw with Oldham and loss at Charlton.
The 23-year-old gave away a late penalty against the Latics and lost possession to allow the Addicks to score the winner last weekend.
McCoy only made his professional debut in January last after making the switch from non-league football – a fact Waddock said has to be remembered.
“He has come so far in such a short space of time,” he said. “He is going to make mistakes – which we all have this season - and it just unfortunate for Marv that he gave the penalty away and lost possession on Saturday.
“But we could point the finger at everybody last Saturday. We missed chances which we should have taken so it is not about one individual.
“Marv is a strong character and will learn from this experience.”
