BEACONSFIELD SYCOB boss Byron Walton (pictured)has blamed his team’s faltering play-off bid on a lack of firepower.

The Rams have only scored more than one goal once in their last nine league games – a drought that has seen them win just twice to leave their promotion hopes up in the air.

With top scorer Lee Barney recalled by parent club Maidenhead and fellow striker Victor Osobu without a goal since January and Charlie Mpi also failing to find the net in that run, SYCOB are going through a dismal run at the worst possible time.

“We’re not realistically looking like scoring many goals,” said Walton. “If we don’t make the play-offs it’ll be our own fault, and to not make the play-offs now would be really disappointing having come this far.”

Beaconsfield finish off their campaign with winnable games against teams in the lower reaches of the league – Fleet Town and Daventry Town – but Walton is not taking them lightly.

He said: “We have to win our final two games, which will be difficult. If we don’t, we’ll need to hope that teams drop points around us.”
