CHALFONT St Peter saw their winless run stretch to seven games after another defeat at Mill Meadow.
Saints slumped to a 1-0 defeat at home to AFC Hayes in a dour end-of-season match on Saturday with a lethargic opening setting the tone and Chalfont's Daniel Hughes’ shot the only chance of the first half.
The second started in similar fashion but came to life for a 15-minute period from 64 minutes in. First Alan Hedley burst into the box for the hosts and had his effort blocked by AFC Hayes keeper Simon Grant.
Then seconds later at the other end Chalfont goalkeeper Mark Oliver was called into action, saving at his near post from Kevin Chakaodza’s low shot.
It took a last-gasp block from Saints defender Ray Walsh to foil visiting striker Matt Woods on 70 minutes but on 77 minutes the Saints defence could not stop Woods from shooting into the bottom corner from inside the box.
The goal brought a brief response from Chalfont as they pressed forward but they were unable to create a chance and the game fizzled out in the final minutes, ending with a defeat for Chalfont meaning they have now lost three in a row at Mill Meadow.
