YOUNGSTERS on Ballinger Waggoners cricket course last week had a real treat when they were joined for two days by the vice-captain of the England Women's cricket team.

Nicky Shaw has been involved in the team's recent successes, including winning the World Cup in Australia, the T20 World Cup at Lord's and retaining the Ashes.

Nicky gave the children an insight into her experiences with the women's team and delivered some excellent sessions on fielding, including drills the women use in practice and as warm-ups.

On the pitch, the Ballinger Waggoners beat Ibstone by 24 runs in their latest MBL Premier Division fixture. All out for 222, they dismissed their opponents for 198.

Having been asked to bat, Ballinger enjoyed a century opening partnership between Paul Humphreys (60) and Matt Riley (85). Despite losing an early wicket to Nick Adams, the Ibstone reply fairly rattled along until impatience led to two Charlie Wells catches.

Ibstone reached 157 but after key man Neil Redrup perished for a superb 121, they were eventually bowled out for 198.
