TWO men who lured a 15-year-old girl into prostitution have today been sentenced to a combined total of 15 years in prison.

Lee Wakelin, 32, of Upper George Street, Chesham, and Arslan Khan, 21, of Severalls Avenue, Chesham, were found guilty at Aylesbury Crown Court on Tuesday, September 9.

Today (Fri) they appeared via video link from Woodhill Prison and were sentenced by Judge Karen Holt at Amersham Crown Court.

Khan, who the judge called the ‘prime organiser’, was sentenced to eight years for causing/inciting a child aged 15 to prostitution between December 28, 2012 and January 1 last year, seven years for trafficking persons within the United Kingdom for sexual exploitation between December 28 and December 31, 2012 and five years for inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. The sentence will run concurrently meaning Khan will serve a total of eight years.

Lee Wakelin, 32, of Upper George Street, Chesham, was jailed for seven years for one count of inciting a child into prostitution, six years for trafficking within the UK and five years for sexual activity with a child, to run concurrently.

Wakelin, who the Judge said played a lesser role, was sentenced to seven years for causing/inciting a child aged 15 to prostitution between December 28, 2012 and January 1 last year, six years for trafficking persons within the United Kingdom for sexual exploitation between December 28 and December 31 and five years for engaging in sexual activity with a child. The sentence will run concurrently meaning Khan will serve a total of seven years.

Wakelin was also charged with rape but was acquitted.

The men were also placed on the sexual offenders register indefinitely and had to each pay a victim surcharge of £120. The men were also banned from having any unsupervised contact with a female under 16 for 10 years.

The court heard how the pair drove two 15-year-old girls, now both 17, from Chesham to Watford on the night of December 29, 2012 after Khan asked if they wanted to go ‘cruising’ in Wakelin’s car.

The girls asked to be taken home but they were told they were not allowed to.

During the drive Khan, then aged 19, propositioned one of the girls to work as a prostitute in his brothel in Chesham and told the other girl she could work looking after the other girls.

Khan, who has an 18-month-old daughter, told the girl she would earn £65,000 a year as a prostitute and ‘walk around with designer bags.’ He added he had a number of prostitutes already working for his brothel and he needed the girls’ help to expand the business.

Wakelin, then aged 30, drove the girls to Cassiobury Park car park in Watford and had sex with the 15-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, to ‘test her.’

The judge said the girl, who she described as ‘very vulnerable,’ went ahead with it because she feared being left stranded.

Khan told the girl she needed to go on a ‘trial’ to see if she could work as a prostitute and offered her £50 to have sex with a man on December 31.

She said she felt scared of Khan and did not want to let him down so agreed.

On meeting, the man and girl recognised each other and the man, knowing her age, did not have sex with her.

Judge Holt said: “This is a serious criminal offence. You both maintain your innocence and do not accept guilt, therefore you’ve shown no remorse.”
