TORIES were celebrating a double win in Amersham-on-the-Hill with their candidate winning the by-election in the town.

Nigel Shepherd edged a tight count with 1,125 votes to win the seat over Lib Dem candidate Howard Maitland-Jones with 1,073 votes.

Third place went to Peter Joseph (Lab) who managed just 203 votes.

Mr Shepherd said: “This feels absolutely fantastic. I see my role as work to put forward the benefits of Amersham and to battle against the HS2.

“I am very proud to be part of a great team in Amersham. It was a tight fight but I was always quietly confident of getting in.”
