Buckinghamshire County Council has announced that they will NOT be building a household waste incinerator in Gerrards Cross.
Veolia Environmental Services, who own the Wapseys Wood landfill site, in A40 between Gerrards Cross and Beaconsfield, were among a list of three bidders for the contract to build the facility, designed to cope with the whole counties waste. But BCC have taken them off their shortlist leaving Covanta Energy and Waste Recycling Group to battle it out for the contract.
If WRG are successful they will build the household waste incinerator at Calvert, in Aylesbury, and if Covanta win the contract they will build the incinerator at confidential site outside the county.
Campaigners have been fighting for more than a year to stop the county council's plan to build the incinerator at Wapseys Wood citing health concerns and large rises in traffic.
