Users of a Chesham swimming pool have complained about the water temperature being too cold.

Chesham Moor Gym and Swim’s Outdoor Pool is experiencing a lower than usual temperature at the moment due to a broken boiler part.

However, Chesham Town Council, which owns the facility, has finally been able to source a replacement part and has said the pool’s temperature should be back to normal by the end of this week at the latest.

Writing a letter to pool users, Chesham Town Council’s clerk Bill Richards said: “On behalf of Chesham Town Council, I’d like to apologise about the lower than usual temperature at the pool and provide you with a brief explanation of the problem.

“Many of you regular and loyal users of the pool will be aware of the major gas problems we experienced back in February ,which resulted in the closure of the building and the shutting off of the gas for three or four days.

“At the time it looked as if the centre may have had to have been closed for several weeks and tens of thousands of pounds spent to completely replace all the pipework.

“Luckily this proved not to be the case and we re-opened within a week.

“One of the unfortunate consequences of this shut-down was, however, that one of the boilers failed to restart.

“Accordingly, a new pilot assembly was fitted along with other associated works such as replacement gas pipe sections.

“Following this fitting, it was suggested by the engineer that, after fitting this new pilot assembly, a second fault may be occurring; thought to be an ‘intermittent gas valve problem.’

“The council placed an order immediately for this additional valve but, regrettably, the part, due to the age of the boilers, has become almost obsolete and very difficult to source.

“One has been finally been located and should be fitted by the end of this week at the latest. In the meantime, our one operating boiler is heating the pool but is unable to raise it to the usual summer temperatures.

“I do appreciate this is a cause of frustration to many of our customers and I do hope you can bear with us just a little longer as the centre manager and his hard-working team, who are no way responsible for the initial breakdown, are on the phone and e-mail daily to get updates on the current situation in regard to the part.

“Your support of the Chesham Moor Gym and Swim Centre is very important to us so I can, again, only apologise and ask that you can show just a bit more patience as we finally resolve the problem.”
