Chairman's Diary: Remembering those less fortunate during the Festive Season

'Tis the season to be jolly! But it's also the season to reflect on those less fortunate during the Christmas season.

'Tis the season to be jolly!

But it's also the season to reflect on those less fortunate than ourselves, those who are frail, disabled or alone during the Christmas season.

It has been a very busy time since last I wrote with a visit by HRH Princess Anne to the charity Riding for the Disabled at Fulmer.

The young disabled who are familiarised with and ride horses as part of their therapy and development were thrilled by her visit and the time she spent with them all.

As we hurtle towards Christmas, on your behalf I have been attending a lot of carol concerts that have not only been jolly but have also given a message of being good neighbours to one another, and so it is my hope that we will all look out for those less fortunate than ourselves.

Looking ahead to 2012 we as a County have a lot to look forward to with the Diamond Jubilee, Olympics and Para Olympics. There will be flame beacons to celebrate the Jubilee and we hope that Parishes and voluntary groups will hold fetes or street parties.

The para Olympics were started in Buckinghamshire by Dr Guttmann a fact we are immensely proud of and we will support our athletes to the fullest extent.

On behalf of the County Council I want to wish everyone a peaceful, joyous Christmas and a healthy and fulfilling New Year.
