We have trawled our archives at Mirrorpix to take a trip down memory lane.

In the fast-paced modern world, it's good to slow the pace once in a while and these photographs take us back to a gentler time... or do they?

Featured here is a photograph of a thatcher and son fixing a cottage roof. It looks like back-breaking work.

And we are not sure many 17 year old girls would volunteer to work for the Land Army, as the girl in our photograph was doing in 1945.
